The midsize Jaguar XF may not be getting the same attention as the newer 2014 Cadillac CTS and Lexus GS, but that should change once the next-gen model arrives soon. The following photos reveal an XF prototype hiding underneath the current-generation sedan’s sheetmetal. That said, the tester doesn’t provide any design hints of what we can expect with the new XF. However, the upcoming Jaguar XS, the purported BMW 3 Series fighter, is expected to arrive before the XF and should set the design tone for the brand’s future sedans. Like the XS, the XF will ride on Jag’s new all-aluminum platform. The same platform will also underpin Jaguar’s upcoming crossover, which the automaker previewed with the C-X17 concept that was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Powertrain options should closely mimic the current XF. Expect to see gas and diesel-powered turbo-fours at the bottom of the lineup, with supercharged six and eight cylinder mills filling in the middle and top of the range. The new XF should also offer all-wheel drive and could include a nine-speed automatic, likely the same ZF-sourced gearbox that recently made its way into the 2014 Range Rover Evoque. And with Jag’s recent push to increase its sporty image, we expect (and hope) to see the return of the XFR-S, which currently churns out 550-hp from a supercharged V-8 and runs from 0-60 mph in a brisk, Motor-Trend-tested 4.1 seconds. What would you like to see from the next-generation Jaguar XF?
